Recycling Old Papers.

Do you have a stack of old newspapers that you're not sure what to do with? Or a strewn-about pile of papers? Students can relate to having dozens of new old copies, notes, and textbooks that they no longer need.

It's almost mid-year, and guess what? The holiday season is approaching. So, why not make use of this time to come up with DIY creative ideas for Christmas gifts and other holiday gifts for your loved ones? This craft is definitely kids-approved. Kids will love tearing pages and doodling on their self-made paper.

Recycled papers feature a unique feel and a rainbow of hues. The key to making recycled paper is to embrace faults and irregularities. Every piece will be unique and exceptional.

Recycling paper is not only a
fun craft project but also for a good cause. And to encourage you here's an easy way to recycle paper without needing any special types of equipment. All the items used for this tutorial are common household products that you may have laying around your kitchen or storage.

  1. Cut or tear papers into small tiny pieces. The smaller the pieces, the easier to recycle. Smaller pieces also give a smoother blend and surficial texture.

  2. Soak the paper in water for at least 2 hours.

  3. Use your regular food grinder and grind the paper for a good minute and more.

  4. Take a container that is larger than your shifter(circular flour sifter/strainer). Fill the container with water.

  5. Take 3-4 good spoonfuls of the grinded paper, mix it with the water.

  6. After mixing, take the shifter. Submerge it fully in the water, and scoop the shifter out. You will have a layer of paper fiber on the shifter.

  7. Take a cotton fabric, and press down to remove any excess water out.

  8. Place down a dry fabric. Turn the shifter outside down and the layer of paper should fall on the cloth. Cover the paper, then roll the paper to make it smooth and also remove excess water.

  9. Let it air dry and try not to touch it before drying.

You can use food coloring, water-soluble paints, or poster colors to add colors of your choice. Crushed flowers, coffee, turmeric, or chocolate powders can also be used as a natural alternative.

craft idea for lockdown adults and mid teenagers. Embroidery is creating beautiful art using cloth and stitching.

Buying kits is always a win since you do not have to search or buy each product from different sites. You get everything you want in one package.

What will you get in an Embroidery Kit?

  1. Embroidery hoop,

  2. Needles

  3. Fabric and assorted colors of embroidery floss.

Some of the fabric even comes pre-printed with the design, so you won't have to trace it from a piece of paper. Or if you wish to create your own design, you can purchase plain ones too.

Embroidery is not a challenging hobby. They are supposed to be relaxing, breezy and shouldn't feel like a huge investment of time and money. They are in fact a great inexpensive hobby and are pretty easy to get hang of.

There are many ways you could use your embroidery. It's amazing you're creating wall hangings, pillowcases, pins, and patches, on your t-shirt. If you're looking for hobby DIY craft room ideas for small spaces then Embroidery maybe your best bait.

Crochet And Knitting

Crocheting and Knitting are life skills that you can learn for creating adorable gifts for your family and loved ones. They are great for creating garments, blankets, hats, mittens, and many more.

You can start with learning basic knitting and proceed to more complicated patterns. After watching a few tutorials and reading some how-tos, you should be able to get hang of it easily. As always it's always about practicing. The more you practice, the better and faster you get.

Tips: Use chunky yarns and thick needles. Those give you a better grip and are perfect for beginners. In fact, chunky yarns are in trend so you might be up to something.

Most of the knitting equipment are one-time investments, except for wool. Knitting tools are inexpensive and easily available. All you need for knitting and crocheting are wool and needles.

Knitting vs Crochet

Both are essentially just different ways of putting yarn together. The stitches in knitting make a "V" shape. Crochet stitches are more akin to knots.

Knitting creates loops by shifting a group of loops from one needle to another. Crochet hooks the loops together directly on the piece with a single hook.

But which one is better for you? Crochet is great for beginners. There aren't many techniques to learn in crocheting so it's convenient. Whereas, knitting is for individuals who prefer to learn in-depth and have an option to expand their skills and techniques more.

Honestly, both of them are great and there isn't a real 'better technique'. It comes all down to personal preferences.

Tufting

If I have to mention one of the most
popular DIY creative craft ideas during lockdown then tufting takes the cake. Tufting has been a hot trend and it’s for a reason. It is a technique of creating the most fluffy and beautiful items. And it’s very easy, you don’t even need to have any special training.

It is always a good idea to practice a few lines to get used to the gun and its movement. Within a few tries, you can have your hands flowing the ways you didn’t know it would.

However, there are certain ways you should do it. Here are some tips that might be helpful.

  1. Pre-plan and decide the colors and designs.

  2. Start with tracing out borders

  3. Use one color at a time, changing colors continuously could be difficult so try working in sections.

  4. Fill in your outline, use horizontal lines.

  5. Always trim the loose ends to make sure it all looks even and smooth.

  6. Don’t forget to seal the back of the design with glue and let it air dry for at least 48 hours.

As tufting is a huge gossip, it does come with a price. So we only recommend tufting for only those who are really interested as it’s quite an expensive hobby. The gun itself is somewhere above USD 200, other things you will need are a wooden frame, fabric, and tufting threads.

After further investigation, the investment to buy a tufting kit is actually reasonable in the long run. You will be able to create your own unlimited supply of custom rugs with a fraction of the prices you will be paying. We highly recommend tufting as a great DIY home improvement craft.

Kids play with Yarns

Yarns are like a blank canvas. You can choose what to do. Did you know yarns make such a great engaging kid play that would be amazing to keep your kids entertained during a boring lockdown period?

  1. Blow up a balloon.

  2. Add fevicol (or any nontoxic liquid glue) to the bottom half of the balloon.

Now, the real challenge is can they wrap the balloon with yarn without bursting it? Do this craft with your kid to find out.

  1. Generously wrap the bottom half of the balloon, cut the yarn.

  2. Give the yarn one more layer of glue with a paintbrush.

  3. Let it completely dry. Then poke the balloon to burst it (kids will probably love it)
